What is TCM
TCM is the abbreviation for Traditional Chinese Medecine.
A holistic system of care that recognizes the unity of the mind and body; treatment of the body as a whole using exercise (both physical and mental), herbal remedies, acupuncture, moxibustion, acupressure and massage.
For thousands of years, the Chinese have used acupuncture and herbal medicine for health preservation and to treat diseases when they occur. Your body is a network of interconnected and mutually-impacted energies known as qi. An even distribution and smooth flow of these energies will insure health. Any obstruction or depletion in these energies will lead to diseases. Acupuncture points are gateways into this network of energies. By inserting hair-fine needles into acupuncture points on your body, an acupuncturist can unblock the obstruction and re-activate the smooth flow of your natural healing energy so that your body can heal itself.
Herbal medicine on its own or in conjunction with acupuncture can help re-establish your Yin and Yang balance - that is, to restore your immune system to its optimal level so that your body's natural healing power can be in control again.
At its best, acupuncture and herbal medicine can help to cure conditions that have been deemed incurable. In many cases, they have yield positive outcomes on illnesses where western medical therapy has little effect on. Quite often, they are used to alleviate the side-effects of standard medical treatments.
